IT ALL STARTED
IN THE SUMMER OF 2011
London - UK
My Golden Grass story began in 2011. From my native Brazil to the world, the evolving resonance of creativity, nature and diverse humanity, moved me to launch The Golden Grass Company. My desire to collaborate with the communities that craft beauty from grass, and to share their story with others, inspired my business ideal: a real path to give them voice through their art.
For the past 9 years, I have been working with three cooperatives in Jalapão; all local artisans with a harvesting licence for the plant, and who specialise in its traditional weaving techniques. Most are women, working from home, which enables them to look after their young children at the same time. We support and empower our artists’ time-honoured crafts, whilst protecting their homeland and ancestral heritage.
Our pieces are fusions of their original tribal designs and my own, current ones. I also do the assemblage, which can involve finishing specific parts of the jewellery, often by attaching stones, hoops or special clasps. After that, I test them for size and quality control.
Craftsmanship is our heart, with intricacy that sparkles: its woven shine makes items artworks — and the perfect miniature eco-accessories.
Founded by Simone Pedrini, The Golden Grass Company is a fair trade business based in London - UK, that offers jewellery and accessories made of Golden Grass (Syngonanthus nitens) by the artisans of Jalapão, a remote rural region in central Brazil. Our collection reflects a refined combination of elegant, timeless and one-of-a-kind designs. All of these products are carefully hand-made from golden grass, each design can take up to several hours or days to make from start to completion. Everything is made with incredible care, passion and attention to detail, using a technique that has been passed on from generation to generation and the collection consists of pieces that bring out the uniqueness of this natural material. Golden grass is a pure vegetable material from a renewable source that grows naturally in the wild. No pesticides, chemicals or other toxic products are applied to the raw material during the crafting of their products.
Our mission is to promote beauty through responsible choices that contribute to economic and social development while conserving the environment, preserving local traditions and empowering communities.
